3G Market in China Reaching 50 Millions Users in 2010?

We all know that China has started 3G in 2009. But what is the real situation now in China?

Here are some quick figures: Up to Dec 2009, China has over 720 millions of mobile users, compared to about 320 millions of Internet users. The reason for such a big difference is due to that a portion of rural areas in China cannot access Internet but 2G mobile signal is still available.

How about 3G? Latest figures is about 10M users in end of 2009, which includes 3M of mobile network card users. It seems to be a little bit slow and has large growing potential.

We have to review the 3G situation of China.

China Mobile – who has dominated the amount of 2G users (over 400 M), is using China’s own technology of 3G (TD-SCDMA) which technology is unstable and without large support of mobile devices.

China Unicom – the one with iPhone, is having the most common 3G network, WCDMA.  This is the same as Hong kong, Europe and in part of US as well. However, Unicom is not a keen player in Marketing.

China Telecom – having the technology of CDMA2000, which is the major technology in US, is trying to sneak up the market shares, afterall, it’s the smallest player in China before 3G.

After 2009 3G Year of China, we can see there’s no big difference in the market share of 3 Big Head, either in 2G or 3G. The main reason is China does not allow transfer of mobile number from one provider to another, which reduces people’s tendency to switch provider for better 3G.

After one year of promotion and development of mobile devices, now Chinese people are already used to concept of 3G, waiting for the 3G trend to explode. Yes, waiting for its tipping point. This year, the big 3 targets 3G market of 30M users but if the tipping point really comes, a 50M userbase is not impossible.

Let’s see, it’s exciting that Zmotion is targeting China, we are there to Empower Business Through Mobile Internet !
